Labels
A modular label system developed for Primal Harvest
Overview
I started with the concepts for the first products and gradually developed a modular label system that could scale across two markets — the US and Europe — each with its own legal and information requirements.
The system had to adapt to different printers, production specifications, and label sizes, which directly influenced the layout modules. At the same time, the color palette followed the broader Primal Harvest brand system while giving each product a distinct visual identity within the range.
Designing a label is a distinct type of layout design — where visual hierarchy meets strict technical and production requirements. Every element has to work within a limited physical format, while maintaining readability, consistency, and a clear product identity across the entire packaging.
Product Lines
The system was designed to support multiple product lines, including:
Daily Wellness — everyday vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients.
Collagen & Beauty — collagen, hair, skin, and joint support.
Gut Health — probiotics and microbiome support.
Energy & Focus — energy, cognitive performance, and adaptogens.
Sleep & Recovery — relaxation, sleep, and stress support.
Superfoods & Nutrition — greens, protein, and functional nutrition.
Each product line had its own color and background concept, using visual metaphors to communicate its specific function while maintaining a consistent brand system across the range.

Modular System
A modular layout system was developed to structure the label designs.
At its core was a micro-module that defined the spacing relationships between all elements. Three micro-modules formed a functional module, creating a flexible framework for organizing larger semantic and graphic blocks.
The baseline grid was aligned to the micro-module, while vertical gutters divided the layout into 12 columns, providing a consistent structure across different label formats and sizes.

Print Production
Depending on the printer and production method, the artwork preparation could vary. In most cases, the semantic background pattern was supported by a dedicated metallic ink layer, prepared as a separate spot-color plate for selective silver or gold printing.
Final artwork was supplied in Adobe Illustrator or PDF, with bleed and technical specifications adjusted to each printer’s requirements.
